If you are the owner of an office-based enterprise and you have decided to start using a cleaning service, here are some tips that you may find helpful.

Instruct your employees to tidy up their desks at the end of each day

It is important to instruct your employees to tidy up their desks at the end of each day. The reason for this is as follows: when the cleaners arrive after the office has closed for the day (or in the morning, before it opens), they will have a limited amount of time in which to sanitise, hoover and dust the premises. If your employees' desks are covered with food wrappers, piles of paperwork, used mugs, pens, notebooks and other items, the cleaners may have to spend a lot of time moving these things out of the way so that they can sanitise the desk surfaces. This could then result in them being unable to dust and sanitise all of the desks or to complete the other jobs on their to-do list.

As such, it's essential to make sure that your employees clear their desks prior to the arrival of the cleaners.

Explain to the cleaners how frequently specific cleaning tasks need to be done

When the cleaners from the commercial cleaning company first arrive, you should provide them with a list of cleaning tasks and explain how frequently each of these tasks needs to be performed. The reason for this is that whilst these commercial cleaners will have an idea of the basic cleaning jobs that need to be done, they will not be familiar with your particular premises and the speed with which certain areas get dirty.

As such, they won't know which sections of the office need to be cleaned daily, weekly or fortnightly. Without this information, they may end up spending too much time on certain tasks that really only need to be done occasionally, and too little time on tasks that need to be carried out regularly.

For example, if almost all of your employees use the microwave in the office canteen during their lunch breaks, then you should probably ask the cleaner to clean the inside of this appliance at least once a week, as it will quickly become covered in food splatters.

Likewise, if your office is based in a semi-rural or coastal location, your employees probably track quite a bit of soil or sand into the office each day. If this is the case, then you may need to instruct your cleaners to hoover the carpets every single day.

Conversely, if you have an air purifier running in your office, it probably doesn't get dusty very quickly (as this equipment will filter the dust out of the air). As such, you may want to instruct the cleaners to only dust the office blinds and windowsills once a fortnight.
